New Month – New Regulations

The rollout of connected equipment continues for new garages with the news this week that decelerometers will also have to be capable of connecting to the DVSA MTS system in February 2020.

The connected equipment changes are designed to minimise the chances of data entry error when sending results back to the DVSA at the end of the MOT test. With brake roller testers for Class 4 and 7 testing being covered for all new applications or replacements from October 1st 2019.

Brake meters are the next milestone in a rollout which is set to be completed over several years.

In parallel to the announcement that decelerometers also need to be connected from February 2020 came the news that all prospective Authorised Examiners must obtain a DBS check in order to apply to operate an MOT testing station.

Previously, applicants required photographic identification and to declare any criminal convictions. The addition of the DBS check eliminates any possibility of non-disclosure of convictions which was previously a self-certification process
